100 ‘No-traffic rule violation zone’ in Pune from Oct 19

To reduce the number of accidents and for safe and smooth flow of traffic , Pune city Traffic Branch, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Regional Transport Office (RTO) have joined hands to create no-traffic rule violation zones at 100 chowks/roads in Pune. The drive will start from October 19.

PMC commissioner Saurabh Rao said that the PMC will remove encroachments from roads, footpaths as well as provide tempo and cranes for taking away vehicles parked on roads, no-parking zones. “We will also paint zebra crossings, cut tree branches hiding traffic signals, fill potholes as well as remove electric poles creating obstacles on movement of traffic”, he added.

A press conference was held in this regard at police commissioner office in Camp on Friday. It CP Shivaji Bodkhe, DCP (traffic) Tejaswi Satpute and other senior officials were present on the occasion.

“Violation of traffic rules like riding two-wheelers without helmet, triple seat riding on two wheelers, driving without carrying necessary documents,stopping on Zebra crossings, driving without seat belt, talking on cell phone while driving and driving without license would be focused during the drive”, traffic branch officials said.

The no-traffic violation zone will be implemented on all important roads, including Fergusson road, Jungli Maharaj Road,Karve Road, Paud Road, Tilak Road, Shastri Road, Kelkar Road, Kumathekar Road, Nehru road and other major roads in city randomly. Maximum staff will be deployed for this drive; they will ensure commuters follow the traffic discipline on that particular road.
