Zomato Preparing for the Home-Delivery of Alcohol! Know When It will Start…

Mumbai : Food delivery company Zomato is preparing to deliver liquor to the doorsteps through online orders. Amidst the lockdown, liquor business has been opened in the country and liquor is being sold heavily. The company wants to take advantage of this.

What is the company’s proposal
A news from the news agency Reuters has reported that the company has made an offer to the International Spirits and Wine Association of India (ISWAI) for this. Due to the lockdown, the company’s food delivery business has fallen drastically, so it wants to maintain its existence by venturing into this new business. Recently, Zomato has also started the delivery of grocery.

Liquor shops have opened
The first phase of lockdown in the country was implemented on 25 March after which the liquor business was completely closed. But the state governments were making pressure to open the liquor business due to the lack of revenue. Due to this, the liquor business opened on May 4 in the third phase of lockdown by the central government. As soon as the liquor business opened, news of huge crowds and long lines started coming to its shops in the country.

Here, the point to note is that home delivery of liquor is not allowed in India right now. For this, companies are pressurizing the government to give it a discount. ISWAI is lobbying fiercely for this. If this discount is given then Zomato can start home delivery of alcohol.

Many state governments have increased the tax on alcohol. Delhi government has imposed a special corona fee of 70% on liquor. Reuters has received documents of the offer sent by Zomato, in which Mohit Gupta, CEO of Zomato Food Delivery Division, wrote, “We think technology-based home delivery solutions can further increase alcohol consumption
