The minimum ability of antibodies to fight coronavirus is upto 3 months

Mumbai: The Sero survey showed, about 30% of coronavirus recovered patients have not developed antibodies. This could be alarming as scientist and experts have claimed that there are many recovered cases which got infected again.

Many times corona recovered patients could not donate plasma. For instance, A nursing officer at AIIMS was tested positive and later on was quarantine. After 22 days later, when she came for plasma donation antibodies were not found. There are many such cases as antibodies are not developed in sufficient quantity.

According to Professor Naval Kishore Vikram of AIIMS, Department of Medicine, not all people recovering from coronavirus have developed enough antibodies. It totally depends on the immunity power and resistance of each person. Few peoples body react in such a way that enough antibodies are not produced in sufficient quantity even within 50 to 60 days of recovery. According to few research, the corona-fighting antibodies can remain in the body for 70 to 90 days. However, there are yet no studies on for how long antibodies have ability to fight the coronavirus.

The opinions varied on whether insufficient antibodies can lead to re-infection. According to Atul Kakkar, a doctor in the medicine department of Gangaram, it is not necessary that insufficient antibodies lead to re-infection, while AIIMS Professor Naval kishore said that more research is yet to be done.

He said that there have been cases of re-infection in Hong Kong, but the cases which have been found in India, it is possible that coronavirus has been found in those patients.

Post COVID-19 Clinic has been started at Rajiv Gandhi Multispecialist Hospital in Delhi for people recovering from Corona. Here people who are cured of corona are being treated but still has symptoms of it.
