Starbucks Wrote ‘ISIS’ on Coffee Cup Ordered By Muslim Woman, Woman Files Complaint

Washington : A Muslim woman has filed a discrimination complaint in St. Paul. The woman alleges that she went to an in-store coffee shop in Barista where her cup of coffee allegedly had “ISIS” written on it instead of her name. The 19-year-old woman expressed her concerns about her safety, saying only her first name was Ayesha. The woman was wearing a hijab and covered her face.

Jayalani Hussain, executive director of the Council Minnesota Chapter on American-Islamic Relations, said she repeated her name slowly and several times in the barista. However, when her drink was ready, the abbreviation for the terrorist group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) was written on the cup. Hussein gave the media a copy of the complaint filed in the Minnesota Department of Human.

Ayesha raised the issue with the store’s supervisor, but Hussain said her complaint was dismissed. According to the complaint, the supervisor of the cafe told her that sometimes there were mistakes with the names of the customers. The woman said that it is not possible that the barista has heard my name ISIS. I had repeated my name several times and Ayesha is not an unknown name.

She said she was given a new drink and a $ 25 gift card before exiting store security. The statement issued on behalf of the store said that it was very regrettable for the guest experience in our store and that when she informed our store leaders about the situation, the representatives immediately apologized to her.

The statement said that we have investigated the case and believed that it was not a deliberate act, but an unfortunate mistake that could have been avoided with greater clarity. We are taking appropriate action with the team members, including providing additional training, to ensure that such mistakes do not recur.
