SPPU News | SPPU wants to splurge ₹10 lakh on PR and branding

Decision is being questioned because of paucity of time and availability of resources with varsity

PUNE : SPPU News | The SPPU has floated a tender for appointing a public relations agency for handling public relations (PR), social media and making branding videos in its 75th year. An expenditure of ₹10 lakh is expected for this. However, questions are being asked about the need to appoint a separate agency for doing this work when the university has the infrastructure for doing PR and related work.

The 75th year of SPPU has started from February. However, after the 75th year has begun, the varsity has not organised any programme. Now, a tender for appointing a PR agency for giving publicity to varsity’s programmes on social media, creating audio-visual material, preparing documentaries, PR and branding.

It has been mentioned that the work of PR, creating audio-visual material and publicity on social media is for a year. However, the Department of Public Information and Journalism (Ranade Institute) for teaching journalism, Department of Mass Communication for providing training in audio-visual medium, EMRC for producing documentaries and a PR department exist in the university. Despite this, the varsity is going to spend ₹10 lakh for PR and branding by appointing a private agency.

However, only six months remain of the 75th year. When the university has all the resources and with the paucity of time, SPPU’s decision to spend ₹10 lakh is being questioned.

Prasenjit Fadnavis, a member of SPPU’s Senate said, “The university should first make use of available resources. Even if the need arises, the varsity can think about appointing an independent agency.”
