PMC Property Tax | PMC’s website crashes; Payment of property tax comes to halt

PUNE : PMC Property Tax | Since July 31 was the last day of availing of concession in the property tax, many Puneites visited the PMC’s website to pay tax in the online mode but the site crashed and no transactions could be carried out.

Since citizens are not able to pay property tax either from home or by visiting the ward office, this has created a difficult situation. Last year also, the same situation had arisen but the PMC has not learnt any lesson.

The PMC has given a discount of 5 to 10 per cent in the property tax during May 15 to July 31 period. In the last two and half months, the civic body has received a revenue of more than ₹1,100 crore. Today is the last of availing of the concession and hence, citizens are trying to pay the tax before the day ends.

Citizens are paying the tax by visiting the ward office or in the online mode. When the ward offices opened at 10 am, there were huge queue of citizens to pay property tax. However, since many citizens are paying the tax at the same time through the website, the site is not functional.

Since the website is not functional, citizens are not able to pay tax and many people are waiting in a queue at citizen facilitation centres but the system there has also collapsed. This has badly affected the citizens.

Last year also, citizens had thronged the ward offices to pay property tax on the last day. A two-day extension had been given last year because PMC’s system had collapsed. This year also, the same thing has happened. The system collapsed at 10.15 am and it had not become operational till 12 noon.

Head of Property Tax Department Ajit Deshmukh said, “The online tax payment system has become non-functional due to some reasons. Efforts are underway with the help of computer and electrical departments to rectify the fault. We will give updates about the situation.”
