Sikhs & Hindus in Danger, India To Provide Visas to 600 Families in Afghanistan

New Delhi : The Government of India has assured relief amid increasing threat on Sikh and Hindu families in Afghanistan. Manjinder Singh Sirsa, chairman of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), met officials of the Ministry of External Affairs on Monday and claimed that they had been assured that India would issue visas to 600 Sikhs and Hindus from Afghanistan.

The DSGMC said in a statement that a delegation led by Sirsa met Jopi Singh, in-charge of the Afghanistan and Pakistan desk at the ministry. Sirsa told reporters that he raised the issue of bringing Hindu and Sikh families who had been staying in Afghanistan to India and the ministry assured him that 600 people would be given visas within a week and their list was ready.

Sirsa said that he has also raised the issue of converting the martyr’s place of Bhai Taru Singh Ji in Lahore into a mosque. It is a gurdwara. At the same time, a spokesman of the Ministry of External Affairs said that India has lodged a strong protest with the Pakistani High Commission on this issue.
