The former cricketer, television personality, and Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu were present in Islamabad on Saturday on an oath ceremony of the new Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan. During the ceremony, Sidhu and Pakistani army chief General Kamar Javed Bajwa were found hugging each other.

Pakistan’s prime minister-elect Imran Khan had called up Mr. Sidhu to extend the invitation to his oath-taking ceremony in Islamabad on August 18.

“Imran Khan is the heartthrob to millions,” said Sidhu. “I have come to Pakistan on Imran’s invitation.”

This picture of Sidhu has put the Congress in an awkward situation. Not only that, Sidhu was placed in the ceremony along with Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) President Masood Khan. It is noteworthy that the BJP has already started aggression on Sidhu’s visit to Pakistan.

“I had been an ardent fan of the multi-talented Khan. In the field of cricket, he had been a great achiever and brought laurels not only for the game but also to his country by winning the World Cup. He was a pioneer in his field. Apart from cricket, I was always impressed by the overall personality of Khan and this is the reason, during cricketing days, I always tried to stay close to him,” said Sidhu.

“I have come to Pakistan with a message of love and consider these moments very special as a change has occurred in the democracy of Pakistan,” he added.

Congress Spokesperson Rashid Alvi told in a report that,

“If he had consulted me, I would have stopped him from going to Pakistan. They have gone for friendship, but friendship is not important than the country.

Our soldiers are giving their lives on the border to protect the country, and in the meantime, the act did by Sidhu leaves a wrong message in front of the country. The Indian government should not allow him to go to Pakistan. He went to Pakistan with the consent of the Indian government.”

“I came here for some formalities… I have applied for the government’s permission. Everything depends on India government’s permission now,” said Sidhu after visiting the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi.

The Congress can be targeted by BJP and its supporters on this matter. It is noteworthy that BJP leader in past have raised a question on such similar issue when former Congress leader Manishankar Ayyar had visited Pakistan. Sidhu’s visit to Pakistan can once again be a problem for the Congress.

Earlier Sidhu had said that he had gone to Pakistan with a peace message. There is a controversy over the way Sidhu hugged the army chief. Even before this, the social media users gave a spicy response to his visit to Pakistan.
