Relevance of Ambedkar’s Thought in today’s India

Vishal Chaudhari  The Entire nation is remembering  ‘The Father of the Indian Constitution’ Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar on his death anniversary. This great man of India died on 6th of December in 1956 that’s why Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar ‘’Mahaparinirvan Din or death anniversary is observed every year all over India on 6th of December to pay him a lot of tribute and honour.

The necessity of Ambedkar’s thought for today’s politics:

His great efforts help a lot to keep the country united. The constitution of India written by the Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar is still guiding the county and helps it in emerging out safely even after it had passed through several crises.

But nowadays, some political parties in India are trying to divide the society into different parts on the basis of cast and religion just for political gain. Such parties are promoting violence in the country by creating a hatred atmosphere in society for their vote bank. Instead of Babasaheb’s principles like social equity, fraternity and justice these parties are focused on how can they separate people as they never want development of people nor they want to maintain social harmony. For this, we can take recent example Ram Mandir issue, intentionally raised by political parties like Shiv Sena on the backdrop of upcoming election 2019.

In the last four years, India has observed many communal cases including mob lynching, isn’t this injustice with the minorities… At such time, the question remains that is it ‘Secular Country’ that Dr B R Ambedkar always wanted….

Inequality and social justice:

Country’s first law minister B R Ambedkar sacrificed his entire life serving the nation and fought for the rights of deprived parts of the society. He was always against social injustice and tried to bring equality in society.

Dr Ambedkar Foundation has been set up by the Indian Government (on 24th of March in the year 1992) so that people all over the country can get his message of social justice.

But if we think about today’s reality, we found shocking facts about inequality. According to the last year’s economic survey, India’s richest  1% population held a huge 58% of the total wealth of the country. From this, we can understand how inequality still exists in India. Poor are becoming poorer and rich, richer.

So, at such condition, some questions still remain unsolved like, aren’t all people getting equal opportunity for their development… Why there is so much concentration of wealth only at a particular section of the country…  aren’t all having equal rights in society…

Reservation

The concept of the reservation was introduced for the development of the backward and deprived sections of the society. During that time, there was more equality in society because of the existence of caste basis hierarchy system in India.

During those days, the reservation had become a burning issue in India. The worst part of this issue is that it is creating a negative kind of environment between the two community

Ideological Disputes :

At Ambedkar’s era, there were conflicts over political issues between leaders also, but those were ideological disputes. The leaders used to oppose each other’s thoughts. The leader used to respect each other despite having variations in ideology, opinions and views about any topic.

For example, there was a dispute between Mahatma Gandhi and Dr Ambedkar over the various issue, but it was also an undeniable truth that they always respect each other.

But in today’s date, political leaders target personally each other.  And during this negative commenting on each other, they forget to respect the post or designation of the opponents. The recent example of a dispute between Yogi Adityanath and Owaisi describes it.
