Ravana had Not Built the ‘Lanka’, Know Who Ruled the Lanka Before!

Pune : Ramayana is very much in discussion these days. People want to know more and more about the characters of Ramayana and about those famous places. Today we will tell you Lanka, the same Lanka where the king Ravana used to live and who was known as Lankesh. Ravana was killed by Lord Shri Ram during the war. Although many places mentioned in the Ramayana still exist and are known by other names, but there are witnesses to each and every incidents of Ramayana.

There is no existence of Lanka today. The question also arises in the minds of many people that whether Lanka existed before Ravana and if it was, then who ruled there at that time.

Lanka existed even before the Kingdom of Ravana . But do you know that Lanka was not built by Ravana. Lanka belonged to Ravana’s brother Kubera, also known as the God of Wealth. Kubera, the god of wealth, built the city of gold ‘Lanka’. But later the evil Ravana drove his own brother out and began to rule Lanka.

According to the Uttarkand of Ramayana, Lanka was built by Lord Vishwakarma but was captured by his brothers Mallyavan, Sumali and Mali. These brothers jointly ruled here for years and then attacked heaven. They could not be returned to Lanka in shame after getting a terrible defeat from Lord Vishnu, the god of heaven in this battle.

Subsequently, Kubera captured Lanka and expanded the Yaksha Empire, whose guards were demons. His brother Ravana, who was half-man and half-demon,later snatched Lanka from Kubera and began to rule Lanka, thus he became the king of the demon kingdom.

After Ravana’s death at the hands of Rama, Ravana’s brother Vibhishan was entrusted with the throne of Lanka.
