Pune: Yewale tea vendor booked for death by electrocution of child labour in Talawade

Pimpri: A 17-year-old boy, who was working at a tea vendor, died due to electrocution as he tried to open a fridge in the shop on Monday afternoon. The tea vendor has been booked in this regard.

The incident took place at the Yewale tea vendor in the Sonigara Heights building in Talawade.

Premkumar Siddharam Bansode (43), a resident of Nigdi, lodged a complaint at the Chikhali Police Station in this regard. A case has been registered against tea shop owner Ganesh Jagtap under the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Amendment Act 1986.

According to the police, Jagtap employed the complainant’s son despite knowing that he was 17. The accused also knew that electric current was passing through the refrigerator. The complainant’s son and other workers at the shop had reminded the accused about the malfunctioning fridge. However, he ignored their reminders.

The accused neither repaired the refrigerator nor took any precautions for the safety of his employees. He continued to neglect the malfunctioning apparatus. He told the complainant’s son to climb over the fridge to get cups and saucers kept over the fridge. The child was electrocuted and died. The accused employed the minor knowingly.
