Pune: Woman doctor, others cheated of Rs 1.5 crore by promising 15 pc returns on investment

Pune: Three persons have been booked for cheating a woman doctor and others of Rs 1.5 crore by luring them with 15 pc returns on their investment.

A case has been registered against three directors of Shell and Pearl Investment Pvt Ltd under the MPID Act. The incident took place at the company office on Paud Road in Kothrud from February 2022 to September 2023.

The 62-year-old woman doctor lodged a complaint at the Kothrud Police Station on Wednesday. The accused have been identified as Sameer Mohan Kulkarni (50), Madhurani Kulkarni (49), both residents of Bavdhan, and Anil Yashwant Chaudhary (66), resident of Kothrud. They have been booked under sections 420, 406, 34 of the IPC and sections 3 and 4 of the MPID Act.

According to the police, the complainant and others were promised that they would get 15 pc returns on their investment in Shell and Pearl Investment Pvt Ltd. They invested over Rs 1.47 crore trusting the directors of the company. However, the accused did not pay anything as returns on their investments and breached their trust.

The accused used the invested money for their personal use and misappropriated it. After the complainant and others realised that they were cheated, they demanded refund of their investment. However, the accused did not give the money back and cheated the complainant and others. PSI Chaitanya Katkar is investigating further.
