Pune traffic police to launch ‘No-tolerance zone’ drive

To reduce the number of accidents and for safe and smooth flow of traffic , Pune city Traffic Branch would be conducting ‘No-tolerance zone’ drive on all major roads from August 26 onwards.

This will be a surprise drive. “We shall select the roads randomly in any part of the city and check all the vehicles. Violation of traffic rules like riding two-wheelers without helmet, triple seat riding on two wheelers, driving without carrying necessary documents,stopping on Zebra crossings, driving without seat belt, talking on cell phone while driving and driving without license would be focused during the drive”, traffic branch said in their statement.

The no-tolerance zone will be implemented on all important roads, including Fergusson road, Jungli Maharaj Road,Karve Road, Paud Road, Tilak Road, Shastri Road, Kelkar Road, Kumathekar Road, Nehru road and other major roads in city randomly. Maximum staff will be deployed for this drive; they will ensure commuters follow the traffic discipline on that particular road.

The citizens are hereby requested to follow the rules. ‘Be responsible – Be safe’ All we wish is your safety…smooth traffic for all.

Pune residents have appreciated the traffic branch initiative on social media and also posted their suggestions.

Manish Gajjaria tweeted, “Great initiative. Please do this at peak office hours on the road approaching Golf Course chowk at Yerwada as vast majority of ppl drive consistently on the wrong side.”

Shailesh Dhanvijay added, “Yes Pl penalise each and every Biker , For all kind of Violations. LET them get the Pinch that Their Violations Wil directly connect them to Heaven as they are the sufferers and Not the Car drivers.”

When Jayesh asked, “Before u fine citizens for helmet, pls clarify what action will be taken for cops seen without helmet. Many cops also don’t wear helmet.” To this Pune police replied, “Same action will be taken on cop also”
