Pune Railway Station | Citizens being fleeced while paying packing charges for two-wheelers at Pune railway station

PUNE : Pune Railway Station | The contractor and some persons are looting people who want to send their two-wheelers by parcel at the Pune railway station. When the charges for packing the vehicle are ₹350, people are being charged ₹3,000 to ₹6,000, according to a survey carried out by railway officials. Now, action is going to be taken against the contractor.

At Pune railway station, the facility for sending two-wheelers by parcel to different cities is provided. Every day, on an average, 50 two-wheelers are sent to other cities. Sometimes, more than 80 vehicles are also sent. Before being sent by parcel, the two-wheelers are packed. The Indian Railways gives the contract to a private company. Before 2019, some individuals staying in Tadiwala Road area used to do the packing. After 2019, the Indian Railways started giving the work to a contractor to ensure that the work is carried out in a systematic manner.

The task of packing the two-wheelers has been given to a Chennai-based contractor. However, this contractor is giving the work of packing to people who used to do the work earlier. The charges for packing a two-wheeler are ₹343. However, people who have been given the task of packing the two-wheelers by the contractor, are charging ₹3,000 to ₹6,000. These people do all the work from booking to packing. Citizens booking the two-wheelers are being fleeced.

The commercial department of Indian Railways had received complaints about overcharging. Commercial Manager Dr Ramdas Bhise inspected the two-wheeler parcel and packing division on Tuesday and this incident came to the fore. Senior Commercial Manager Dr Milind Hirve is conducting the questioning of the contractor.

The police demand a NOC for two-wheelers brought to Pune from other states. The Railway Police seek ₹500 for issuing the certificate. The railway administration is going to have a correspondence with the Railway Police Superintendent and seek action against erring policemen.

If a person booking a two-wheeler for parcel is asked to pay more than ₹343 for packing, then customers should contact the railway control room on 9766353772 or 020-26105399, Dr Ramdas Bhise, has appealed.
