Pune: PSI suspended in Rs 5-lakh extortion case

Pune: The Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) attached with the Dehu Road Police Station has been suspended for extorting Rs 5 lakh from the parents of a college student by threatening to frame the youth in a fake drug case.

The suspended police officer has been identified as PSI Soham Dhotre. He was a part of the investigation team of the Dehu Road Police Station. Rs 5 lakh was extorted from the parents of the student from the college at Kiwale by threatening to implicate the student in a fake ganja case.

A case was registered at the Dehu Road Police Station. Two more policemen – Hemant Chandrakant Gaikwad and Sachin Shrimant Shejal – have also been booked after their involvement in the offence was confirmed. They were also attached with the Dehu Road Police Station and were a part of the investigation team. These two policemen committed the offence as their senior PSI Soham Dhotre failed to ensure their subordination. Thus, they have been charged with maligning the image of the police force.

Meanwhile, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Crime Branch took action against illegal businesses within the jurisdiction of the Dehu Road Police Station. This has led to the suspension of PSI Sohan Dhotre.
