Pune police encroach upon labourers’ land in Budhwar Peth

PUNE NP NEWS NETWORK- Police have encroached on land adjacent to Dagdusheth Temple, where the original landlord has reserved the place for labourers. The Budhwar Chowk Majur Adda is the place for rights of the laborers. But the police has prevented them from coming there and workers are not allowed to stay in this place.

Since British Raj days, this place has been the labourers’ place where 1500-2000 used to stand for getting employment. This place is located in a strategic and important square. Initially, there would be about half a thousand to two thousand laborers to get jobs.

However, the expansion of the city has increased over time. The workers are not allowed to stay here. A few years back, the blast had been carried out in the parking of Faraskhana and Vishrambaug police stations. After the blast, this area is counted among the sensitive locations. And this has complicated the matter for labourers who are not being allowed to even stand at their designated place.

The land belonging to Kashibai Bhule was given for the laborers. However, in this place, the police personnel of Faraskhana and Vishrambaug police stations are parking their two-wheelers. Also barricades have been put in place so that no one should come here. Some people who go there, have to listen to the foul language of the police personnel.

On the open space, the Budhwar Chowk Ganeshotsav Mandal has encroached. After removing a board called ‘Majur Adda’, they have put Ganpati mandal board. Therefore, the laborers have to wait on the road to get work. Nilkanth alias Kailas Gunjal said that people have to bear the injustice despite the right of labor rights.

Social worker Baba Adhav said that it is completely wrong that the police personnel park their vehicles on the labourers land. Even after telling senior police officials nothing has been done. It seems ignorance is the only thing left in labourers destiny. The Pune Municipal corporation should preserve the memory of labor workers in this place.
