Pune PMC News | Pune Municipal Corporation Identifies and Resolves Missing Road Links for Enhanced Connectivity

Pune : Pune PMC News | The Pune Municipal Corporation has undertaken a comprehensive study to identify and address the issue of missing road links within the city. A total of 401 kilometers of undeveloped roads, known as the missing link, have been identified. Among them, 38 essential roads covering short distances have been prioritized for immediate action. The aim is to connect these roads, spanning a total length of 6.5 kilometers, to improve connectivity and resolve the existing road problems.

Since the incorporation of 58 villages into the Pune Municipal Corporation in three phases, the city’s area has expanded to 518 square kilometers. However, the road infrastructure in these newly included areas has become a pressing concern. The lack of alternative routes has resulted in insufficient short roads, exacerbating the problem. Recognizing this issue, the Municipal Corporation commenced its efforts to identify and rectify these missing road links last year.

The study revealed that out of the total 401.22 kilometers of undeveloped roads, 128 kilometers fall under the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority’s (PMRDA) ring road and were excluded from the Municipal Corporation’s purview. The remaining 273.22 kilometers encompass 390 roads that require development. However, it is not feasible to develop all these roads simultaneously due to the substantial financial requirements.

Upon analyzing the missing links, the Municipal Corporation has adopted a phased approach, prioritizing roads of short distances that are of utmost importance to citizens. A total of 38 roads, ranging from 20 meters to 300 meters in length, have been selected for immediate attention. The Commissioner has instructed the respective engineers to expedite the acquisition process and resolve any outstanding issues within a timeframe of one to six months.

The identified causes for the road blockages include demands for cash payments, non-possession of government land, pending payment of Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) and Floor Space Index (FSI), court cases, unauthorized constructions, and prolonged possession processes for premises. The Municipal Corporation is committed to addressing each of these issues to ensure smooth possession of the identified roads.

To facilitate this comprehensive endeavor, meetings involving the land acquisition department, construction department, and road department have already been initiated. Additional Commissioner Vikas Dhakne has been entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the process and ensuring efficient coordination among the involved stakeholders.

The successful completion of these road projects will significantly enhance the city’s road network and improve connectivity for residents. The Municipal Corporation remains dedicated to strengthening the infrastructure of Pune and will allocate the necessary budgetary provisions for connecting these roads to the existing network.
