Pune PMC News | ‘No parking no halting’ on Sinhagad Road; All encroachments will be removed in two days, says civic administration

PUNE: Pune PMC News | A two km long flyover is being currently constructed on Sinhagad Road. The flyover will be useful as a solution for frequent traffic jams but it has become very difficult to commute on Sinhagad Road. After a Marathi newspaper published a series of reports highlighting the woes of commuters, the civic administration is in the action mode and a policy of ‘no parking no halting’ will be implemented. All encroachments from Rajaram Bridge to Fun Time, will be removed by Monday.

The PMC’s anti-encroachment department has issued an appeal that sheds and railings put up by businessmen should be removed. Traffic jams have become a regular affair on Sinhagad Road. Because of the flyover construction work, a 10-metre area on the centre of the road has been closed by putting up barricades. Hence, on this road having a width of 32 metres, the vehicles are able to ply on a 6 metre area. In addition to this, potholes, slush, heavy vehicles make it a nightmare to travel on the road.

Sinhagad Road has been included in the list of 15 model roads to be built by the PMC. The civic body faces a difficult challenge of freeing the road from traffic jams. Officials of various departments like Road, Anti-Encroachment and Illegal Constructions, Project Department have come together to make efforts to improve conditions on this road. The action will start from Monday.

Departments which will take action

1) Anti-Encroachment and Illegal Constructions:

Vegetable and fruit vendors have been banned from plying their trade in the area from Rajaram Bridge to Fun Time. Railings put up by different shopkeepers will be removed. The civic body has issued an appeal that shopkeepers should themselves remove the railings as early as possible, said Deputy Commissioner Madhav Jagtap. From Monday, action will be taken against encroachments and markings will be made on the road as per the development plan. Care will be taken that the action is not limited to one day and encroachers don’t return. After encroachments are removed, the administration is hopeful that a road with a width of two metres will become available for commuters.

2) Road Department: The department has issued instructions to the ward office for ensuring that there are no potholes on the road which has become narrow due to the flyover work. Coldmix and chemicals will be used to fill up the potholes. Care will be taken to ensure that potholes don’t develop on the road. Addl Commissioner Vikas Dhakne said that extra manpower will be used to ensure that the stretch between Mahalaxmi temple and Nanded City is free of potholes.

3) Project Department: The flyover is being constructed on this road by the Project Department. The 10 metre middle portion of the road has been barricaded. Now, the work is over and the barricades will be placed inside by one metre, said Chief of Project Department Srinivas Bonala. He said all potholes will be filled up in two days. He said that big potholes in the Brahma Restaurant area were filled up on Thursday night.

Problems

1) Narrow width of the road due to flyover work
2) Roads have been dug up due to works of PMC and Electric Department
3) Road digging by service providers
4) Vendors occupying footpaths and road
5) Neglect by police officials

Lodge complaints regarding potholes

The PMC is working towards filling up potholes but citizens also inform the civic body about the potholes. They should contact on 020-2550 2153

Addl Municipal Commissioner Vikas Dhakne said, “Priority has been given to ensure that Sinhagad Road is free from traffic jams. In seven days, all potholes between Sarasbaug and Nanded City will be filled up. Local citizens should help the civic body in its efforts to widen the road. They should remove the encroachments made by them or the ward office will levy a fine on erring shopkeepers.”
