PMC Property Tax | Exempt owners of small houses from paying property tax, demands Congress MLA Ravindra Dhangekar

PUNE: PMC Property Tax |  In limits of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai civic bodies, owners of houses up to 500 sq foot have been exempted from paying property tax. Congress MLA Ravindra Dhangekar through a calling attention motion in the state assembly, has demanded that this should be applicable in Pune also. Auto drivers, maids and lower middle class stay in houses of 500 sq foot.

Dhangekar said that Pune city is growing with the inclusion of villages and development of many suburbs and the number of small houses is significant. Dhangekar said that if property tax is waived off, it will provide a major relief to these people. The budget of the PMC is of ₹8,000 crore. Hence, if concession is given in property tax, it will not make much difference. The PMC faces problems while collecting taxes and is not able to collect the full amount. It can take measures to overcome this problem, he said.

The pending property tax dues is ₹8,000 crore and it includes a fine of ₹5,000 crore. Hence, the civic body should implement the Abhay Yojana. If the PMC implements the scheme, then ₹6,000 crore will become available for development works, said MLA Sunil Tingre.
