Pune News | Pune: Stray Animals Pose Risk to Commuters on Sinhagad Road; Citizens Demand Action

Pune: Pune News | The Khadakwasla Dam Chowpatty area on the main Sinhagad road has witnessed a surge in stray animals in recent days, raising concerns among the local residents. The narrow road and heavy vehicular traffic in the area have created a potential risk of accidents due to the presence of these loose animals.

Citizens are now demanding prompt action from the concerned department to address this issue before any innocent lives are endangered. Municipal officials from the stray animal control department have assured the public that immediate measures will be taken to tackle the problem.

Between Khadakwasla Dam Chowk and DIAT Gate, a noticeable number of stray animals can be seen roaming freely. These animals move back and forth across the Chowpatty area, searching for leftover corn kernels and husks discarded by tourists. Some people even stop their vehicles in the middle of the road to feed these animals, further aggravating the traffic situation.

The already narrow road, combined with numerous bends that limit visibility, poses a significant challenge for drivers. The sudden appearance of animals on the road creates confusion and increases the risk of accidents. Local residents are urging authorities to take action against those responsible for releasing these animals into the area.

Ganesh Waghmare, a concerned citizen, highlighted the dangers posed by the stray animals, stating, “The presence of animals lying in the dark creates confusion for drivers. With heavy traffic on this road, avoiding the animals by taking a different direction can lead to accidents. It is crucial for the administration to address this issue promptly.”

Suhas Pandhare, the Sanitation Inspector from the Pune Municipal Corporation, assured the public that they would gather information about the timing of the animals’ presence and take appropriate action.
