Pune News | Leopard’s Free Movement Raises Concerns in Pune’s Otur Area

Pune: Pune News | The serene surroundings of Otur area in Junnar taluka of Pune district have been recently disrupted by an unexpected visitor – a majestic leopard. The free movement of this elusive big cat has been captured on camera, causing a stir among the local residents and igniting fear in the hearts of citizens.

The startling video, which has now gone viral on social media, was filmed near the house of former member of Pune Zilla Parishad, Bhanuvilas Gadhave. The leopard’s sighting occurred between 9 and 9:30 in the night, as it ventured near his residence. Gadhave’s son managed to record the extraordinary encounter from the safety of their car.

The footage reveals the leopard emerging from the shadows onto a farm road, illuminated by the car’s headlights. In a moment of both awe and trepidation, the occupants of the car are seen reacting nervously to the sight of the magnificent creature. In the video, one of the women in the car can be heard urgently informing someone over the phone, “Hey, there’s a big tiger lying in front of us.” The leopard, undeterred by the presence of the vehicle, gracefully makes its way into the nearby field, disappearing into the darkness.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, as leopards roaming freely in the area have sparked concerns about the safety of the residents. Junnar taluka is known for its thriving agriculture, with sugarcane and other crops cultivated extensively. However, the proximity of the Bhimashankar Sanctuary has made it a natural habitat for leopards, leading to occasional sightings in the region.

Instances of leopards entering human settlements and attacking domestic animals have been reported in the past, adding to the worries of the forest department. The situation calls for careful monitoring and conservation measures to ensure the harmonious coexistence of wildlife and the local population.

As the viral video continues to circulate on social media, wildlife enthusiasts and authorities are reminded of the importance of preserving natural habitats and maintaining a balance between human activities and wildlife conservation. The incident in Otur serves as a stark reminder of the need for increased awareness and safety measures to safeguard both the magnificent leopards and the communities they share their home with.

The forest department is urged to take proactive measures to address the growing concerns and fears surrounding leopard sightings in the area. Community awareness programs, precautionary guidelines, and responsible forest management are essential in ensuring the safety and well-being of both humans and wildlife.
