Pune News | Commuters Demand Fair Pricing from Taxi and Auto Aggregators

Pune: Pune News | People in the city have voiced unhappiness with the unreasonable high prices imposed by taxi and autorickshaw aggregators. Despite the Regional Transport Office (RTO) rejecting Ola, Uber, and Rapido authorization in April, these aggregators continue to offer autorickshaw services at excessive pricing.

Many passengers have reported that the fare they end up paying is significantly higher than the amount shown on the app during the booking process. Prasad Gosavi, a working professional, shared his experience, stating that his cab fare initially displayed as Rs. 350, but by the end of the trip, it had surged to a staggering Rs. 760. The driver shrugged off any responsibility and advised him to contact the company, leaving Prasad with no choice but to pay the inflated fare.

Amid these concerns, RTO officials disclosed that the transport department is currently in the process of formulating its aggregator policy. In the meantime, they acknowledged that the ban on aggregator-based autorickshaws has not been strictly enforced to ensure that commuters are not hassled. However, they also assured the public that starting from August 2, a drive to inspect autorickshaws would be initiated jointly by the RTO and traffic police, encompassing all aspects of operation.

The high fares and discrepancies in pricing have left many users dissatisfied and seeking a resolution to the ongoing issue. As the transport department finalizes its aggregator policy, commuters hope that it will address the fare surge and ensure fair and transparent pricing for cab and autorickshaw services.

The lack of strict enforcement has allowed aggregators to continue their services despite the ban, prompting calls for more decisive action to protect commuters from the burden of exorbitant charges.
