Pune Metro News | Extended Metro Lines Set to Commence Operations Soon

Pune : Pune Metro News | The eagerly awaited extended metro lines in Pune are expected to begin operations by the end of this month. Mahametro, the implementing agency for the metro project, has successfully completed the construction work on both extended lines. According to reliable sources within Mahametro, the Metro Rail Safety Commissioner has conducted inspections of the extended lines, and once they provide their approval, the service will be launched on these routes. With the commencement of services on the extended lines, it is anticipated that there will be a significant increase in the number of metro passengers.

Currently, the metro service operates on two routes, namely from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Station to Phugewadi Station, and from Vanaz Station to Garware College Station, with a combined length of 12 km. On March 6, 2022, these routes were opened to the public. Subsequently, the construction work for the 13 km extension from Phugewadi to District Court and from Garware College to Ruby Hall Station has been completed. The extended routes have undergone successful testing and are currently being inspected by the Metro Rail Safety Commissioner and their team.

The Metro Rail Safety Commissioner has already conducted three inspections of the extended lines, and a final inspection is scheduled for next week. Following this, Mahametro will receive the final inspection report within a week, which will then be submitted to the state government for review. Once the commissioner grants the necessary approvals, the state government will make the final decision to commence operations on the extended routes. According to Mahametro sources, it is expected that the extended service will begin by the end of this month.

The extended metro lines will cover the following routes: Garware College to Ruby Hall Station, spanning a distance of 5.12 km, with stations including Garware College, Deccan, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Park, Pune Municipal Corporation, District Court, RTO, Pune Railway Station, and Ruby Hall. The second route is from Phugewadi to District Court, covering a distance of 8 km, with stations at Phugewadi, Dapodi, Bopodi, Shivajinagar, and District Court.
