Pune : Pune Emerges as India’s EV Hub | The city of Pune is set to solidify its position as a hub for electric vehicles (EVs) with a significant investment of Rs 13,500 crore approved by the state government. The funds will be allocated towards EV manufacturing, battery production, and the establishment of battery swapping stations. This landmark decision paves the way for Pune to become a major player in the EV industry, creating job opportunities and enhancing the city’s reputation as an EV innovation center.
Government Approval and Key Players
The Cabinet Sub-Committee of the State Industries Department convened in Mumbai, where Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Industries Minister Uday Samant, and Principal Secretary of Industries Department Harshdeep Kamble were present. The committee granted approval for EV projects in Pune and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Notably, three prominent companies—Gogora India, Aether Energy, and Pinnacle Mobility Solutions—pledged investments exceeding Rs 13,500 crore in the initial phase, promising to generate thousands of employment opportunities.
Highlights of the Investment
Gogora India will lead a project spanning Pune and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, marking the largest EV project in the country. The endeavor aims to establish a network of 12,000 battery swapping stations throughout Maharashtra, laying the foundation for efficient EV usage. Gogora India will also manufacture EVs and batteries, contributing to the overall growth of the EV ecosystem. Similarly, Pinnacle Mobility Solutions will focus on producing commercial electric vehicles, including electric buses, trucks, and containers. Furthermore, the project will include the development of a hydrogen vehicle manufacturing facility, driving innovation in clean energy transportation.
Pune’s Growing EV Sector
The state government’s approval of these projects follows the green signal given to a Rs 10,000 crore investment project by Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Group’s EV manufacturing venture. With multiple companies establishing their presence in Pune, the city’s upcoming electronic park will serve as a platform for electronic production required for EVs. Additionally, the implementation of an extensive network of battery swapping stations will further enhance EV adoption within Pune and its surrounding areas.
