Pune District Guardian Minister | City abuzz with talk about district guardian minister

Pune : Pune District Guardian Minister | NCP leader Ajit Pawar’s decision to join the ruling combine is likely to affect politics in the city and district. The district guardian minister’s post is important as he exercises considerable influence over the district. This assumes significance in the backdrop of ensuing elections next year.

It is being discussed whether Chandrakant Patil will retain the post or it will be given to Ajit Pawar. The city and district has 21 MLAs. There are two municipal corporations in the district.

The district guardian minister has a lot of weight in Pune district. Ajit Pawar held the post during 2004-2014. He again became the guardian minister in 2019 after the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) came to power.

Pawar proved the worth of the post during the pandemic by holding weekly, monthly meetings to review the situation. He also did not lose the opportunity to establish a rapport with the leaders of opposition parties by leveraging this post.

However, after the MVA government’s collapse, Chandrakant Patil became the guardian minister. In 2019, Girish Bapat was the district guardian minister when the BJP-Shiv Sena combine formed the government for a brief period.

Now, after Ajit Pawar joined hands with the BJP and Shiv Sena (BT), the district guardian minister’s post is back in the limelight.

Uneasy calm in BJP Pune

The city BJP unit usually reacts immediately after any important development at the state or city level. However, following Ajit Pawar’s entry into the state cabinet, no city BJP leader was available for comment. The party’s city office also wore a deserted look. Sources from the city BJP unit said that it was a strategic silence as they had been instructed not to comment by the state unit.

Meanwhile, BJP city unit chief Jagdish Mulik broke the silence on the development on Sunday night. He said, “The MVA, which was not founded on logic, has broken today. The BJP and its allies will win the upcoming civic, Lok Sabha and assembly elections.”
