Pune Cyber Crime | Cheating of Easy Pay Private Limited; Main accused’s accomplice arrested in Pune

PUNE: Pune Cyber Crime | The Cyber Police had arrested a registered agent of Yerawada-based Easy Pay Private Limited from West Bengal for cheating the company of ₹3.5 crore. Now, his accomplice has been arrested from Shivaji Nagar, Pune. The police took action on Saturday (July 22).

 

The accused has been identified as Ankit Kumar Ashok Pandey (20), a resident of West Bengal and hailing from Bihar. The police carried out Pandey’s technical analysis and arrested him from West Bengal on July 12. His accomplice Chhotu alias Ejaz Alam Jeaul Ansari (28), a resident of Jharkhand and hailing from Bihar has been arrested from Shivaji Nagar area on Saturday.

 

The Cyber Police came to know that the accused Pandey’s accomplice was going to arrive at Topkhana area in Shivaji Nagar. Accordingly, they laid a trap and arrested Chhotu. After he was questioned, his involvement in the crime was proved. Two mobiles have been seized. When he was presented in the court, he was remanded in police custody till July 31, 2023.

 

Easy Pay Private Limited, a Yerawada-based company, provides online payment facility to citizens. The company has appointed registered agents all over the country and the work is carried out through these agents. From August 11, 2022, 65 agents in collusion used two to four mobile handsets other than the authorised ones and logged in, in an unauthorised manner by using the login id misused the technical facilities of the company.

 

From the company’s VPA account, they transferred ₹3.52 crore to 44 bank accounts apart from agents’ commission and cheated the company. Hence, the company had lodged a complaint with the cyber police. Accordingly, the police had registered an FIR under sections 419, 420, 39 and sections 43/66, 66 D of the IT Act.

 

The action was taken under the guidance of CP Ritesh Kumar, Joint CP Sandeep Karnik, Addl CP Ramnath Pokale, DCP Shriniwas Ghadge and ACP Appasaheb Shewale by Senior PI Minal Supe Patil, policemen Rajkumar Jaba, Nilesh Landge, Shahrukh Shaikh, Kiran Jamdade, Babasaheb Karale and Anandrao Bhandalkar.
