Pune Crime News | Yerawada Central Prison: 10 mobiles found in three months; Questions raised about security system
PUNE : Pune Crime News | It has come to light that 10 mobiles were taken inside the Yerawada Central Prison by violating the security arrangements. Ten mobiles have been found in three months. This has raised questions about the security system of the prison.
From April to July 6, 2023 10 mobiles, SIM card, charger, mobile batteries have been found in the Yerawada Jail. From pril, the jail administration had started keeping a watch on the jail and prisoners by using drones. A system has been set for prisoners to communicate with their family members. However, the illegal use of mobiles has not stopped. The prisoners have hidden mobiles in the bathrooms of the baracks, madi gate and internal walls. The use of mobiles by the prisoners despite strict action by the jail administration is being considered a serious matter.
Two mobiles, charger and batteries
On Wednesday evening, two mobiles, two batteries, charger and SIM card were found in the Yerawada Jail. An FIR has been registered against Mahesh Mane, Ajay Kamble, Aniket Choudhary and Naresh Dalvi at the Yerawada police station. According to the police, the jail administration had come to know that some prisoners in barack four of circle 1 were using mobiles. Jail officials searched the prisoners and seized mobiles from Mane and Kamble. A mobile charger was seized from Chaudhary and a SIM card was seized from Dalvi. Two mobiles, two batteries, charger and SIM card were seized from four prisoners.
A smart card phone facility has been provided to prisoners on a trial basis at the Yerawada Jail through the initiative of Addl DGP (Prisons) Amitabh Gupta. Earlier, a coin box-based phone facility was in existence. After the coin box system became redundant, the smart card phone facility was made available which has made it easy for prisoners to communicate with their family members.
Fourteen staffers who are suspected to have provided mobiles to prisoners, have been transferred. Even after frequent checking of prisoners is carried out, mobiles are being found in prisons and are being illegally used by prisoners. Meanwhile, MCOCA prisoners, anda cell prisoners, terrorists, Naxalites and anti-national elements are not provided phone facility.
