Pune Crime News | Haryana-based gang nabbed for cheating customers in banks, 19 cases cracked

Pune : Pune Crime News | The Lashkar Police have arrested a gang of three for fleecing customers at city banks by posing as bank employees and gaining their confidence.

 

Deepakkumar Omprakash Mehangi (47), a resident of Panipat, Haryana, Sunil Ramprasad Garg (37), a resident of Panipat, Haryana and Surajkumar Omprakash Mehangi (29), a resident of Haryana, have been arrested. The trio hails from Haryana. Their involvement in 19 such cases committed in other cities of the state, including Pune, and other states has been detected.

 

DCP Smartana Patil and Sr PI Shashikant Chavan revealed this in a press conference. The accused used to cheat the bank customers, who used to visit various banks to withdraw or deposit cash, by posing as bank employees. Preliminary investigations revealed that they had committed similar crimes in Maharashtra and other states. Further probe is on.

 

An incident had happened at Indusind Bank on Gen Thimayya road in Camp, Pune at around 4 pm on June 13. The complainant is working in a company on Dhole Patil road. The company manager had given him a cheque for Rs 3 lakh to encash from the bank. He withdrew the money. As he was putting the cash in his bag, a man standing near the counter told him that the cashier wanted a bundle of notes back as it is tinted with turmeric and pencil. The complainant mistook him for a bank employee and handed over a bundle of notes to him. He took the bundle and disappeared quickly.

 

The Lashkar police conducted a technical analysis and arrested Deepakkumar and his accomplices. They also held Surajkumar.

 

The trio had committed similar crimes in cities in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh also. The police have detected 19 such cases, in which the gang was involved.

 

Addl CP Pravinkumar Patil, DCP Smartana Patil and ACP RN Raje guided a team comprising Sr PI Shashikant Chavan, PI Priyanka Shelke, PSI Mahendra Kamble, policemen Mahesh Kadam, Vilas Shinde, Atul Menge, Mangesh Borhade and Ramesh Chaudhar, who participated in the action.
