Pune – Crime Branch nabs 2 men who fired on lawyer

Pune: NP NEWS 24 ONLINE – The sleuths from the Pune city police crime branch has nabbed two youths, who attempted to kill a lawyer by firing on him on Monday night on Sangamwadi road. The arrested accused has been identified as Kurmadas Bade of Shirur and the other suspect accused is a minor.

Bade had given a civil case to advocate Devanand Dhokne (42) and also paid him Rs two lakhs fees to fight the case. However before the court could start hearing the matter, Bade reached compromise with the opposite party. Therefore, Bade asked Dhokne to return the fee money which was refused by the lawyer.

Police said that in order to teach him a lesson of life, Bade along with his minor accomplice fired at Dhokne on Monday night.

Cops had suspected that the firing was due to commercial reasons. Accordingly, officials from crime branch were conducting raids at different places. On Tuesday morning, senior police inspector Nitin Bhosale Patil of Crime Branch unit I and his colleagues took both suspects in custody in Chikhli area.

According to police, Adv Devanand Dhokne and Bharat Dhokane took leave from their clients after work. Around 8 pm on Monday, they left for their home in Yerwada. Bharat was driving the car while Devanand was sitting beside him. As the car slowed down at a speed breaker on the Sangamwadi road near the BRT bus stop, the accused fired three rounds at Devanand. The accused persons were following the car for sometime. After firing they fled from the spot, while Devanand was rushed to a hospital in Koregaon Park. He is undergoing treatment in ICU ward of the hospital.

Meanwhile, to protest against the attack on lawyer, members of Pune Bar Association (PBA) boycotted work in the all courts including the district and sessions court in Shivajinagar on Tuesday. Lawyers gathered in large number outside gate number 4 of the district court to protest the deadly attack.
