Pune: Chandannagar Police Probe Rs 33 Lakh Fraud in Alleged Business Scam

Pune: A promising business opportunity turned sour for Mohammad Asim Ziauddin Shaikh, a 28-year-old resident of Pathare Vasti, Kharadi, who found himself duped of a staggering sum of Rs 33 lakh. The case, registered at Chandannagar Police Station on Monday, sheds light on an intricate web of deception allegedly orchestrated by a familiar face, Rajat Ishwar Golar of Nagpur.

The incident unfolded between 2022 and July 11, 2023, leaving Shaikh grappling with financial losses and dashed hopes. According to the police report, the accused, Rajat Golar, exploited his pre-existing acquaintance with Shaikh, skilfully gaining his trust. Under the guise of a lucrative business venture involving the purchase of camera-making machines with profit-sharing arrangements, Golar convinced Shaikh to invest a substantial sum—a total of 64 lakh, 88 thousand, 949 rupees.

However, as the promised venture failed to materialise and suspicions arose, Shaikh pressed Golar for reimbursement. In a partial repayment attempt, Golar returned 36 lakh, 79 thousand, and 445 rupees, leaving a significant deficit unsettled. Subsequent demands for the remaining amount were met with stonewalling tactics from the accused, culminating in Shaikh’s realisation of the deception perpetrated against him.

In a bid for justice, Shaikh lodged a formal complaint at Chandannagar Police Station, prompting swift action from law enforcement. The Chandannagar police, led by Assistant Police Inspector Khandekar, have initiated an investigation into the matter, registering a case against Rajat Ishwar Golar under sections IPC 406 and IPC 420.
