Pune: Cantonment court gives clean chit to BJP President Chandrakant Patil against allegations of filing a false affidavit

Pune: Pune Cantonment Court gave clean chit to BJP state President Chandrakant Patil against allegations of submitting fake affidavit while contesting Kothrud Assembly elections. A case was filed in Pune Criminal court accusing that the affidavit submitted by Chandrakant Patil was false.

Abhishek Haridas had sought redressal against Chandrakant Patil’s election under Section 125 (a) of the Representation of the People Act 1951, alleging that he had filed a false affidavit after winning the Kothrud Assembly elections. The case was filed in the Pune Cantonment Court (JMFC) under Section 202 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Judge Janhvi Kelkar in a detailed judgment dismissed all the allegations against MLA Chandrakant Patil and dismissed the complaint.

After the court gave a clean chit, Chandrakant Patil said, “The fact that the son of an ordinary mill worker is the minister of important departments, that he is the state President of a national party is not humane to some enemies and it is a scandal against me and an attempt to get me in trouble.”

He further said, “But the court’s verdict showed that the truth prevails in the end. Such accusations are now common, and such false accusations cause unnecessary mental distress”. However, Chandrakant Patil also said that he gets more power after such conspiracies and will do social service as accepted in his vow.

BJP chief spokesperson Sandeep Khardekar said after verifying all the complaints of the complainant and the accompanying witness evidence, the court recorded the observation and said that all the allegations against Chandrakant Patil were false. It mainly includes-

  1. It was observed that the income tax return attached to the affidavit was correct.
  2. This claim was also rejected as Chandrakant Patil was not in a position of any benefit while contesting the elections.
  3. At the same time, the judge observed that it was also incorrect to say that the person holding the post of Chandrakant Patil hid his income in the affidavit as he was not getting any honorarium.
  4. In the case filed against Chandrakant Patil in the court of Kolhapur, the judge has also rejected the statement of the complainant.
