Pune | Businessmen Mahesh and Ganesh Kenjale held in Rs 96-lakh cheating case

Pune : NpNews24 Online The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Pune rural police has arrested two businessmen for cheating an entrepreneur of Rs 96.15 lakh. The accused have been identified as Ganesh Ramrao Kenjale and Mahesh Ramrao Kenjale, both residents of Paud.

The court has remanded the accused in two-day police custody.

Milind Mahajan (58), a resident of Pashan, lodged a complaint in this connection. According to the police, Mahajan is an entrepreneur and has a unit at Bhosari. He met the Kenjale brothers in their office at Erandvane through a mediator in 2011. Mahajan bought their land at Gat no. 306, area 25 R, at Bhukum in Mulshi taluka under a registered sale deed. He was supposed to pay them Rs 85 lakh for the land. The Kenajale brothers did not register Mahajan’s name on the 7/12 extracts as mentioned in the sale deed.

Kenajale had bought the land from Bhiku Mazhire and Ramdas Mazhire and sold it to the complainant. Eknath Maruti Mazhire had objected to the deal as the land was not available at the site. Then Kenjale told Mahajan that they would buy 40 R land from Mazhire and would register 25 R in his name.

The complainant then told Kenjale that he needed money for treatment. Hence, he wanted to sell his land. However, he could not sell it as his name was not registered on the 7/12 extracts. The Kenjale brothers told him that they had bought 40 R land and would sell the entire land to a customer. Mahajan told them that there was no land holding in front of their names on the 7/12 extracts.

The Kenjale brothers told him that there was some technical mistake by the Revenue department, which they would get corrected. They told him to write to the tehsildar. The agent published an advertisement in the newspaper selling plots at Rs 700 per sq ft of the said land.

However, Gat no. 306 has only 3 hectare 58 R area while the sold land was 4 hectare 11 R. Hence, the talathi submitted his report stating the difficulty in registering the applicant’s name in the 7/12 extract. The tehsildar decided on the basis of this report.

The Kenjale brothers had shown a land purchase of 25 R from Bhiku Mazhire and Ramdas Mazhire at Gat no 306. They made changes to the 7/12 extracts by putting their names and sold it to Mahajan. The changes were cancelled as the sold land was more than the land on the 7/12 extracts.

Therefore, an offence was booked against Ganesh and Mahesh Kenjale for selling non-available land at Rs 85 lakh and taking money for the sale deed, stamp duty and lawyer’s fees. In all, they took Rs 96.15 lakh from the complainant and cheated him.

The Kenjale brothers have been arrested. The court sent them to police custody for further investigation.

This was revealed by PI (Pune Rual, EOW) Rajkumar Kendre.
