Pune: Ajit Pawar’s first move after wife’s defeat in Baramati, Yugendra Pawar sacked as taluka wrestlers’ body chief

Pune: NCP (AP) President and DyCM Ajit Pawar has made the first move after his wife and Maha Yuti Lok Sabha candidate Sunetra Pawar lost the election to NCP (SP) candidate and sitting MP Supriya Sule.

Yugendra Pawar, a member of the Pawar family and Sharad Pawar supporter, has been removed as the President of the Baramati Taluka Kustigir Parishad, a taluka-level wrestlers’ association.

It is said that the decision was made on Ajit Pawar’s orders. According to sources, a meeting of the wrestlers’ body was held recently. It was decided in the meeting to remove Yugendra Pawar as their head. The association made the decision on the pretext that Yugendra Pawar did not attend the meeting. It remains to be seen what stance Yugendra Pawar and Sharad Pawar take on the issue.

Meanwhile, Yugendra Pawar said that he did not know anything about the decision. He said that the association did not officially communicate to him about this. However, he had heard about the meeting and some important decisions made in it.

Yugendra Pawar’s sacking from the wresters’ body immediately after the Lok Sabha election has given rise to discussions. This is also interpreted as the escalation of tension within the Pawar family. Supriya Sule had visited Ajit Pawar’s home in Malegaon near Baramati on the polling day. Ajit Pawar was not at home. However, Sule met other family members. It was her effort to cool down the tempers, which had risen during the poll campaign. It remains to be seen whether the rift widens after Ajit Pawar’s move to sack Yugendra as the head of the taluka wrestlers’ body.

Baramati is still Sharad Pawar’s stronghold

There was a direct fight between two Pawar family members in Baramati, Supriya Sule and Sunetra Pawar. The former defeated the latter with a big margin. She had taken the lead in five out of six assembly segments during the counting of votes. It was a big jolt for Ajit Pawar. The NCP (AP) contested four LS seats but the lone candidate from Raigad emerged victorious.
