A 56-year-old General practitioner from Gorpadi area became the first doctor from the Pune city to die because of the Covid-19 on Friday. As per the reports, the doctor was the only in the whole of the Pune region to put on Tocilizumab, a drug/antibody which is now used to treat those who are critically ill due to Covid-19. The drug is reportedly very expensive and was provided to show care towards the doctor. He was admitted to Sassoon Hospital on 13th May and from 17th May he was on ventilator support in a critical condition.
Around 450 private medical practitioners have tested COVID positive in Maharashtra till date. The government must look into the matter and make sure that the doctors are motivated enough to work.
