Pune 1091 Helpline: Use govt vehicles to ensure safe commute at night for women; CP Amitabh Gupta instructs officers

Pune: Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta has appealed to all girls and women travelling late night in the city to call the 1091 helpline for any kind of assistance during their commute.

“All police stations have been instructed to make government vehicles available to women and ensure that they reach safely at home during night time,” Gupta has stated in a press release on Wednesday (December 16).

The press statement issued by the Pune Police says that several working women, girls, students have to travel late at night due to work. They may not have public or private vehicles for commuting at odd hours. In the past, untoward incidents have been reported and to avoid them the 1091 helpline is made available to women.

The statement further says, “If any women calls the helpline, the police beat marshall will immediately reach on the spot to help the distressed individuals. Government vehicles should be used to ensure that women reach their destination safely. In case women are commuting through a cab or autorickshaw, the senior police inspectors and other police staff should note down the vehicle number and take necessary precautions with regards to the safety of passenger.”
