Post-Covid Care: Patients above 50 years have increased risk of other diseases

Mumbai : A study has found that patients who are over 50 years of age and have high-risk illnesses are more at risk of coronary heart disease and other diseases. Therefore, during and after the treatment of corona, the medical experts expressed the need to constantly check the level of blood and oxygen in the patient’s body.
According to the Indian Journal of Medical Research, 60-70% of patients with coronary heart disease are at risk of various heart diseases. Similarly, more complications can occur in patients with pre-existing high-risk illnesses. In addition, blood clots can cause disease. In Mumbai, the proportion of patients receiving post-covid treatment in Sion, KEM and Nair hospitals is 40 per cent, while in the outpatient department of private hospitals it is 12 per cent.
About 10 to 12 patients visit the post-covid OPD of Nair Hospital every day. The patients treated in this department are mostly patients with diseases like diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and obesity, said Nair Hospital Superintendent Dr. Ramesh Bharmal.
Every day 15 to 20 patients come to Post Covid OPD. In October, 138 patients were treated. The proportion of women is 35 to 40 percent and the proportion of men is 60 to 65 percent. Most of the patients are in the age group of 40 to 60 years.
