A lot of efforts had to be made to start the Bharat Ratna Atal Behari Vajpayee Medical College. The National Medical Commission had rejected the permission because of several shortcomings. There was a question mark whether the college will begin from this year. However, the civic body speeded up the work of setting up a laboratory, equipment, books, hostel etc in the last four-five months. The Centre gave the permission in the second week of March. When the PMC’s medical college got its approval, two rounds of admissions for the MBBS course had already taken place. Hence, this college was included in the third round.

The Dean of the college, Dr Ashish Banginwar, said the third round of MBBS admissions concluded on Wednesday. In that round, admissions for 78 seats were confirmed. The CET Cell may give students an independent choice to get admission for remaining seats. All seats will be filled this year.

The students always prefer studying in Pune. The students have taken advantage and have given preference to Pune over other cities. The students who had got admissions in medical colleges in cities like Mumbai, Washim, Baramati, Gondia, Satara, Nashik have cancelled their admissions in these cities and have taken admission in PMC’s medical college.
