PMC Hospitals News | Woman Denied Family Planning Surgery at Municipal Hospital Over Alleged Bed Charges

Pune : PMC Hospitals News | In a shocking incident, a woman who had come to Rajmata Jijau Hospital in Mitra Mandal Chowk of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for family planning surgery after giving birth allegedly demanded money for a bed. The incident has raised concerns about the transparency and accessibility of free medical services provided by the municipality.

The woman, hailing from Vadgaon Budruk, was referred to Rajmata Jijau Hospital on Monday with a doctor’s note following her delivery at the Municipal Corporation’s Laigude Hospital on Sunday. However, upon arriving at the hospital, she was asked to pay Rs. 400 for admission and an additional Rs. 150 for a nano bed. Due to the financial constraints of her family, the woman explained that she was unable to pay the amount. As a result, she was denied admission and had to leave without undergoing the surgery.

The incident came to light when BJP corporator Manjusha Nagpure brought attention to the matter, demanding immediate action from the health department of the municipal corporation. Nagpure has written a letter addressing the seriousness of the case and urging an investigation into the incident.

It is important to note that family planning surgeries are meant to be performed free of cost in municipal hospitals, and there is no information or board indicating any charges for medical services. Therefore, the demand for money raises questions about the hospital’s practices and adherence to the municipality’s policies.

Assistant Health Chief Dr. Prahlad Patil has assured that a complaint has been received regarding the matter, and strict action will be taken against those responsible. The incident has highlighted the need for a thorough investigation to ensure transparency, accountability, and equitable access to free medical services provided by the municipal corporation.

The incident not only points to a lapse in the hospital’s communication but also raises concerns about the financial burden imposed on patients seeking necessary medical procedures.
