NEET 2020: Pune’s Tejomay Narendra Vaidya ranks second, Ashish Zanate ranks first in Maharashtra

Pune: The results for National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) 2020 were announced on Friday (October 16) night. Of the top 50 students who cleared the exams, four are from Maharashtra. Ashish Zanate has ranked first in Maharashtra with 710 marks out of 720 while Tejomay Vaidya from Pune has come second in the state with 705 marks.has ranked 19th and Tejomay Narendra Vaidya has ranked 43rd in the country.

The exam was conducted by the National Testing Agency. About 40.94 per cent students from Maharashtra, who appeared for the exam, have cleared it. The other two students from Maharashtra are Parth Kadam with 705 marks, who has ranked 45th in the country, and Abhay Chillargene with 705 marks who has ranked 46th in the country. There are about 16 to 17 thousand students in the country who have secured more than 600 marks in NEET 2020. Last year this count was just around seven thousand. Hence this year the cut off is expected to increase by at least 20 to 25 marks.

 

More than 2.27 lakh students had applied for NEET 2020 exam from Maharashtra. Of these 1.95 lakh students had appeared for the exam. After the Covid-19 outbreak, the exam was postponed and hence students also got more time to study for the exam. About 77974 students have now qualified for admission to medical courses. Only 40.94 per cent students from Maharashtra have managed to clear the entrance exam this year. Last year in 2019, this percentage was 39.26 which shows that this year the numbers have improved slightly.

 

Tejomay’s grandfather Vidyadhar Vaidya was also a doctor while his father Narendra Vaidya is a reputed orthopedic surgeon. Tejomay has completed his class 12 education from Fergusson College. Speaking to media persons, Tejomay said, “I owe my success to my teachers and parents who gave me guidance. When I entered Class 11 I didn’t know much about NEET, but my teachers prepared me well. I prepared for the NEET exam as my teachers told me to.”
