MP: Burnt Rs 500 notes lead Police to hawala racket; 3 arrested

MP: The Seoni district police in Madhya Pradesh has arrested three persons from Uttar Pradesh and recovered Rs 1.74 crore from them hidden in the bonnet of the car they were travelling in. The police were alerted by the locals who found burnt currency notes on a road close to the Banhani village.

 The accused, according to the police, had stopped at the spot to check the engine of their car after smoke started coming out of it.

The locals of the Banhani village in Seoni said they found burnt currency notes in the denomination of Rs 500 on the Seoni-Nagpur national highway during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.

 According to SHO Manoj Gupta of Kurai Police Station, “The accused had hidden the currency notes in the bonnet of the car to give a slip to police but their engine caught fire and when they opened the hood to check it, half-burnt currency notes flew out…The locals reported this incident to the police,”.

The accused had fled before police reached the spot but their car was intercepted with the help of the highway patrol as locals were alert enough to note the car’s registration number.

The Innova car had a Mumbai registration number and the three accused have been identified as Sunil of Jaunpur, Hariom of Azamgarh and Nyas of Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh. The accused were supposed to buy gold jewelry from the money that was to be bought from Mumbai.
