Man held for molesting student in Hinjawadi

A 30-year-old man from Karnataka has been arrested by Hinjawadi police station for allegedly molesting a student on Tuesday evening.

The arrested accused has been identified Guru Shankar Birajdar, a resident of Bidar Humanbad in Karnataka. A 25-year-old student has lodged the FIR against him.

According to police, the girl hails from other state and has come to Pune for higher education. She is living on rent in Hinjawadi, famous as the IT hub. Around 7 pm on Tuesday, she was running (exercise) on the road behind Blue Ridge society, when the accused molested her.

Police said that they took action as soon as the victim approached them. Police officials said that Hinjawadi area is safe for women as there is CCTV surveillance besides round the clock patrolling.

Hinjawadi was a completely rural locale until the construction of the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park. The park comprises three phases with further phases planned. Hinjewadi Industries Association(HIA) was laid out to provide a joint forum to all stakeholders based out of Hinjawadi and nearby places.

Hinjewadi is a proposed hub for integrated townships in Pune. Several big residential societies have come up in the last five years. There are several educational institutions in the area. The 2800-acre IT park in Hinjawadi and Maan houses hundreds of companies of different sizes. About 3.5 lakh people work in the companies here.
