The strike by the Uber drivers in Mumbai, Pune and other district is likely to continue on Wednesday. It will inconvenience scores of commuterswho depend on these cabs for daily travel in the city.

The drivers are demanding better earnings and assured income of Rs 3,000 daily.

When the drivers’ partners went to protest at the gates of aggregator firms on Monday morning, the latter reportedly shut down office and did not meet the protestors.

This angered them and they called for a strike till demands are heard and they are called for discussions. “If the aggregator firms call talks, drivers may resume duties,” said an union leader.

While many cabs went off roads by evening, the unions expect more to join by Tuesday morning.

Aggregator firms have been appealing to drivers to stay on road and operate. A spokesperson from Uber said : “We regret the disruption caused to our rider and driver-partner community, due to a small group of individuals. We remain committed to serving the city and ensuring that our driver partners continue to access a stable income, while giving riders a convenient, reliable option to get around Mumbai.”
