LPG cylinder price hiked by Rs 25, second hike in 4 days

With this increase, a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder will be available at Rs 819 in Mumbai

MUMBAI: Ever-increasing petrol and diesel prices have already made a dent in consumers’ pockets and now the consumers have got another major blow with the hike in LPG cylinder prices on Monday.

The beginning of the month marks the hike in LPG cylinders by Rs 25. Just three days ago, the prices were hiked by Rs 25.

There was a jump of Rs 100 in the price of gas cylinders in February. Previously, there was an increase of Rs 25 on February 4, Rs 50 on February 14 and again Rs 25 on February 25. The hike comes at a time when petrol and diesel prices are already touching an all-time high.

With the rise in the price, the rate of domestic gas in Delhi has now increased from Rs 794 to Rs 819. The new price in Mumbai is also Rs 819, while it costs Rs 845.50 in Kolkata and Rs 835 in Chennai. In January, the oil marketing companies did not make any change in the LPG gas price. However, before that, there was a rise of Rs 50 twice in December last year. In the month of February, the price went up on three different occasions. The total increase in the previous month was Rs 100.

The price of 19 kg commercial gas cylinder has risen by Rs 90.50. Now the price of this cylinder is Rs 1,614 in Delhi. First, it was priced at Rs 1,523.50 per cylinder. Similarly, the rate in Mumbai has now gone up to Rs 1,563.50 per cylinder. In Kolkata, this price has been increased to Rs 1,681.50, and in Chennai the rate is Rs 1,730.5.

The government has prepared a plan to give more than one crore free LPG connections in the next two years and to provide easy access to LPG to the people. This scheme has been formulated to achieve the goal of delivering clean fuel to 100 per cent of people in the country.

Petroleum Secretary Tarun Kapoor said that at least a plan to provide connections with identity documents and without local residence proof is ready. In addition, consumers will soon have the option of getting a refill cylinder from three dealers in their neighbourhood instead of being tied to only one distributor.
