Lonavala | Four youths lose their way in the jungle due to heavy rain and thick mist; Rescue teams find them after three and a half hours
PUNE : Lonavala | Four students of a well-known engineering college had gone for a trek at Dhak Bahiri mountain near Rajmachi fort in Lonavala on Tuesday. The four students lost their way due to heavy downpour and thick mist. After hurricane efforts of three and half hours, they were found by teams of Shivdurg Mitra and Maval Vanya Jeev Rakshak. Darkness, heavy rain and mist created obstacles in the search operation. The students have been identified as Chetan Kabade, Amol More, Sumit Shende and Aditya Sangle.
The four students had gone for a trek at Dhak Bahiri mountain in Lonavala area. It is raining heavily in Maval and Lonavala area. Due to thick mist and heavy rain, the youths lost their way. The youths were waiting for help till late in the night and stopped at a place. Finally, Lonavala Shivdurg Mitra and Maval Vanya Jeev Rakshak and Kamshet police started searching for them. The teams contacted the students. The search operation started at 10.30 pm. The heavy rain, dense forest and darkness were proving obstacles in the search. Since the youths’ mobiles had range, the rescue teams were able to connect with them once in a while. The youths were scared due to thick forest, darkness and the noise made by animals.
After efforts of three and a half hours, the rescue teams were able to locate the students. They were found at 1.30 am. The youths were scared. Since the monsoon has begun, hundreds of visitors arrive in Lonavala and go trekking. Shivdurg Mitra’s Sunil Gaikwad has appealed to youths and visitors to go for a trek only if they are knowledgeable about the area.
