Lockdown Effects : Sudden Rise in Condom Sales in India

New Delhi : The spread of the Corona virus is increasing day by day in the country. The number of Corona positives in the country are continuously increasing. There is an atmosphere of fear across the country. As a result, a tendency of the consumer towards the storage of necessities are being seen. Many public places, including malls, theaters, gymnasiums, swimming pools, are closed for more than a week. Many companies have asked employees to work from home. Since many people are staying in homes, they are storing food and household items. However, a sharp increase in the selling of condoms over the past few weeks is being seen. Sales of condoms have increased by 3 to 5 percent over the past few weeks.

Often, consumers buy fewer condoms. But over the past few weeks, the number of consumers are purchasing condoms in large numbers, says drug dealers. “People generally prefer to buy three condoms. But over the past week, the demand for large boxes with more condoms has increased,” said a drug dealer in south Mumbai. Another seller argued that increasing demand in such a way is miraculous. “Condoms sales generally increase during the festive season. Especially during the New Year, condom sales increase. But now people are buying condoms due to lockdown across the country.” “I have increased my condom stock by 3 percent,” said one drug dealer.
