New Delhi: Former President Bharat Ratna Pranab Mukherjee was cremated today at Lodhi cremation ground with state honors. Earlier, his body was brought from Army Hospital (R&R) to his official residence at 10, Rajaji Marg.

President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid tribute to the former President of the country, Pranab Mukherjee, who was honored with the Bharat Ratna at his residence. The body of the 13th President of the country was brought from the Army’s R&R Hospital at 9.30 am and cremated at 2 pm in the Lodhi crematorium.

The special thing is that Pranab Mukherjee was Corona positive, due to this, very few people attended his funeral. Everyone appeared in the PPE kit. Son Abhijeet Mukherjee offered Mukhagni to father Pranab Mukherjee.

Vice Presidents M. Venkaiah Naidu, CDS Bipin Rawat, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Speaker Om Birla, former PM Manmohan Singh, Union Minister Harshvardhan, BJP President JP Nadda, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Shashi Tharoor, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary, CPI General Secretary D. Raja , Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and many others also paid tribute to the late former President.

84-year-old Pranab Mukherjee died on Monday evening. Mukherjee, a veteran Congress leader who was active in politics for a long time, was admitted to the hospital on August 10 after being diagnosed with blood clots in his brain. His condition became critical after brain surgery and he was also found to be corona positive during the treatment.

Pranab Mukherjee was the President of India from 2012 to 2017. He was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 2019 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008. The central government has announced a seven-day national mourning on the death of Pranab Mukherjee. With this, the West Bengal government has also announced mourning.
