Is an educational qualification essential for politicians?

NP NEWS 24 ONLINE: TANUSHREE PODDAR:    Education encompasses knowledge of basic skills, technical skills, working under pressure, time management, conflict resolution, leadership, manners, hygiene, etiquette, and being a good citizen. For any developing nation, education is the most important aspect in all terms.

At present, there is no set of education required to become an MP or MLA in our country. The Constitution while mentioning the various eligibility conditions does not mention anything about educational qualification. Interestingly, ‘Rajasthan ‘is the first State to fix a minimum educational qualification for contesting elections to Panchayati Raj Institutions.

Which brings us to the discussion that whether educational qualification is necessary for politicians? Yes, it is.

It is essential to have minimum education to the politicians because a politician is a representative of the people of society from where he is being elected and he must have all sort of knowledge related to the problem being faced by his voters.

Without any proper education, how can a politician address the problems of society and how he can carry out development in any aspect? If a politician is not well educated he will not have the right to voice for education for others. A good leader should know the problems of people which is only possible if he has the knowledge about the topic. It becomes difficult for uneducated politicians to cope up with global changes as they may not understand the diplomatic situations with other countries of the world.

Education is a viable and most important aspect in our current world scenario. We look upon the politician as an able person who can guide us and make proper and appropriate decisions. But if the politicians do not have proper academic background what impact he will have at local or national or international level.

Where on the one side we have politicians like Uma Bharti, Rabri Devi, Karunanidhi, Vatal Nagaraj, Jaffer Sharif, and much more politicians who fall in the least educated one but, on the other side, we have politicians like Dr. Manmohan Singh, Sashi Tharoor, P. Chidambaram, Subramaniam Swamy, Kapil Sibbal, Jairam Ramesh, Suresh Prabhu are some of the extremely qualified politicians.
