India’s first Successful robotic heart surgery; Patient 32 km away operated

NP NEWS 24 ONLINE- Medical sciences are making new inventions each day and are advancing in the field of technology. This robotic surgery is a perfect example of which!

In a recent incident, India has proved its excellence in the field of medical sciences as it became world’s first to successfully perform a telerobotic coronary intervention.

Telerobotic coronary intervention is a robotic method of performing surgery. In this surgery, the surgeon operates his/her patient by the use of internet and a robotic tower and the surgeon operates patient from a distance. Da Vinci system is the leading surgical robotics technology provider.

This surgery successfully took place on December 3, in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad city. A cardiologist named Dr. Tejal Patel performed this telerobotic operation on a woman who was 32 km away from where the doctor carried this robotic surgery.

Dr. Patel carried this operation at Akshardham temple complex in Gandhinagar, while patient was in operation theatre of Apex Heart Institute, Ahmedabad. He used a speed of  Jio Band 100 MBPS internet for the surgery which lasted for about 15 minutes.

Gujarat’s Chief Minister, Vijay Rupani was inside the temple complex with Dr. Patel watching the whole operation on the computer screen whereas Dr. Patel was operating his 32 km away patient with help of buttons and stent was successfully placed in the patient’s arteries clearing the blockage.

The safe part about the whole process was, even if there is a failure in speed of internet connectivity, the doctors would have been able to manually operate the patient in 30 seconds. Hence such safety measures were taken while experimenting this complete new form of surgery.

This is an achievement in the field of science in the country of India and is great contribution to the modern technology.
