Indians buy record 5 crore smartphones in September quarter

New Delhi : After the lockdown, smartphone sales in the Indian market have increased 8 percent. This year, a record 5 crore smartphones were sold in the July-September quarter. This is the highest ever sale in any quarter, according to a report by research firm Canalys. A total of 4.62 crore smartphones were sold in the same quarter of 2019.

The report said that sales of top-5 smartphone companies Xiaomi, Samsung, Vivo, Realme and Oppo have increased in the quarter under review. The company’s analyst, Advaita Mardiker, said that after three months, lockdown restrictions in India are being gradually reduced.

During this time, the government has created a better environment for sustainable development. Its effect has also been shown on the sales of all smartphone companies. More sales are expected in the festive season. E-commerce companies have sold 1.10 crore mobile phones in the recent festive season sale.

According to the report, the market share of Chinese mobile companies grew 2 per cent to 76 per cent in the quarter under review. The share was 74 percent in the same quarter last year.

However, their market share declined 14 per cent on a quarterly basis due to the boycott of Chinese goods due to border disputes. Chinese companies had 80 per cent market share in the June quarter.

According to Research analyst Varun Kannan, despite the ongoing tensions between India and China over the past months, there has not been a large impact on customer buying. However, this has definitely affected the strategy of the Chinese smartphone brand. They are cutting costs by adopting conservative methods for business.

At the same time, they are carefully working to improve their image. These companies believe that their role is important in India’s economic development, but some changes will have to be made to increase their sales.
