Indian Railway to increase fares of shorter distance trains

New Delhi: The Indian Railways has increased the fare of trains. According to the statement released by Railways, the fare of trains for shorter distance will be increased. Railway has taken this decision because of the pandemic situation. The increase in fares will affect travellers who are travelling for a distance of 30 to 40 kilometres.

The Indian Railways stated that only 3 per cent of the trains will be affected by an increase in fares. Covid-19 is still dangerous for everyone’s health and in many states, the situation because of the pandemic is getting worse. The decision has been taken to reduce the crowd in trains so as to curb the spread of Covid-19. It also added that travelers are provided high subsidies on tickets already and the railway is bearing losses due to the situation.

WHAT WILL BE THE FARE?
According to the Railways, the new fare is decided based on express trains which means travellers who are travelling for a short distance have to pay fare according to the fare of express trains.
In the year 2020, the Indian Railways had to block the movement of trains because of the pandemic.

Indian Railway is continuously working to increase the number of passenger trains. It has been operating for about 65 per cent of mail/express trains and more than 90 per cent of suburban services as compared to the time before the lockdown.

According to the sources, at present 125 mail/express trains, 5,350 suburban train services, and 326 passenger trains are running daily, and in these, trains with shorter distance are less than 3 per cent.

The Railways is operating during the time of pandemic and some trains are still running even if they don’t have many passengers to travel. All the safety measures for Covid-19 are being taken care of by the Railways.
